Centrifugal Partition Chromatography (CPC)
| Compared to traditional stationary phases such as normal and reversed phases, liquid-liquid chromatography or Centrifugal Partition Chromatograhy (CPC) provides an alternative and cost-effective method for the purification of challenging molecules. Natural products with their complex sample matrix and fragile nature are perfect for this technique as it does not denature their molecules. The crude is diluted, filtered and loaded directly onto the CPC system, minimising sample preparation steps and eliminating the need for initial clean-up methods. The liquid state accepts a wide range of different conditions, such as pH, polarity and ions, making it diverse and flexible for a wide range of applications. Depending on its liquid components, the solvent system can be tailored for a specific application or molecule and, instead of using different columns for purification, the used solvent system can be altered for a specific target. |

| Ginger is widely known for its use in flavoring foods and beverages, but it is also commonly used for medicinal, perfumery, and esthetic purposes. This app note shows how CPC can produce a high-quality standard of [6]-gingerol without the use of silica-based chromatography methods, such as FLASH and prep HPLC. |
Vanillin is the major component of natural vanilla, which is one of the most widely used flavoring materials worldwide. In this app note, an ethanolic crude extract of vanilla is used to show the capacity of the PLC 2050 system to work with different types of chromatographic columns. |
Piperine has long been used in traditional medicines. Gilson has developed a purification method using CPC with mass-directed fraction collection which is a rapid and reproducible method, recovering close to 100% of the piperine from crude extracts, and requires less solvent than other LC techniques. |
